The short version
Call of Duty: Warzone Season 5 Reloaded went live on August 20 at 9AM PT (5PM BST) across all platforms, as set out in Activision’s official mid-season announcement (Call of Duty). For Warzone players the headline is simple: Black Ops Royale is back, Loaded Resurgence joins as a Weekend LTM, and two new match-flow hooks — Quickdrop Kits and Special Delivery Drones — are now in rotation.
Dexerto independently reported the same August 20, 9am PT / 5pm BST launch and the same content list (Dexerto).
This page is the rundown of what is in the update. The weapon balance numbers — the MXR-17 and CBRS-3 nerfs, the AN-94, MK35 ISR and Mammoth buffs — are broken down separately in our Season 5 Reloaded weapon buffs and nerfs list.

Black Ops Royale is back on Avalon
The official blog confirms Black Ops Royale returned with the mid-season update. This is the Blackout-inspired battle royale variant set on Avalon, built around scavenging and survival rather than the normal Warzone economy. Activision describes it as having no Loadouts, no Gulag, and no Buy Stations — you wingsuit in, scavenge weapons, hunt Attachment Kits to raise weapon rarity, and try to outlast 24 rival squads.
That makes it a useful change of pace if standard Warzone has started to feel too solved. Expect less comfort-loadout play and more improvising with what the map gives you.
One thing worth knowing before you grind it: the patch notes also reduce Player and Weapon XP earn rates in Black Ops Royale, because Raven found the mode was outpacing every other way to level up. Play it for the format, not for the XP.
Loaded Resurgence is the Weekend LTM
Loaded Resurgence has joined as a Weekend limited-time mode. Activision says it runs across Rebirth Island, Haven’s Hollow and Fortune’s Keep at 44 players, with squads spawning and redeploying with their custom Loadout weapons already equipped.
The trade-off is that perks are not handed over at the start. Activision says perks are earned through eliminations, with enough kills unlocking the Specialist Perk. In practice that should make early fights faster and more confident, while still rewarding teams that keep winning engagements.
Quickdrop Kits are the change most likely to matter
The new Quickdrop Kit is a Resurgence feature tied to Most Wanted Contracts. Activision says you need to complete a Most Wanted Contract and live through it, then pick the kit up from the crate that drops afterwards.
It is stackable, and the patch notes put hard numbers on it: the kit permanently reduces the whole squad’s Resurgence countdown — 15% for the first kit, 30% for the second, and 45% at the third and final stage.
That is the feature to watch first. Anything that changes redeploy timing affects how aggressively squads can take mid-game fights, and it is especially relevant in tournaments or customs where wiping and resetting quickly decides rounds. Raven’s stated reasoning is that Most Wanted previously duplicated what Resurgence already does, so the contract now earns you something the mode does not give you for free.
Special Delivery Drones add camo rewards
Activision also confirms Special Delivery Drones in Battle Royale and Resurgence. Shoot one down for the chance at a Camo Case, hold the case for a short period, and the associated weapon camo unlocks permanently. Case holders are marked on the Tac Map for everyone, and a dropped case can be stolen by anyone — so securing one is its own fight.
Two camos are available: Heavy Metal across Verdansk and Avalon in Battle Royale and Battle Royale Casual, and War Machine in Resurgence and Resurgence Casual.
This is more of a reward chase than a meta-changing mechanic, but it gives regular squads one more reason to look up instead of only playing rooftops and rotations.
What else is in the wider update?
Season 5 Reloaded is bigger than Warzone. The same update adds the Nuketown-themed Turbo Tilt Multiplayer map, the Freerun: Descent obstacle course, the return of Cranked Moshpit, and Rex Infernus — which Activision describes as the final round-based Zombies map for the Black Ops 7 storyline.
There are also new Weekly Challenge rewards across modes: the Mace melee weapon, plus two attachments — the RK-9 Calibrated Strike System barrel for the RK-9 SMG and the Peacekeeper MK1 Gauss Accelerator fire mod for the Peacekeeper MK1.
One deadline worth diarising: Activision says this is the last season Endgame is free to play. From the start of Season 06 it leaves the Warzone menu and becomes Black Ops 7 owners only.
What TourneyTime players should do first
If you only have one session this week, start with the Warzone pieces that change match rhythm:
- Test Quickdrop Kits in Resurgence and see how much the redeploy timer shifts squad tempo — this is the one most likely to affect serious play.
- Try Loaded Resurgence while the Weekend LTM is up, if you want immediate loadout fights and fast reps.
- Run Black Ops Royale if your squad wants a less loadout-dependent battle royale night.
- Watch for Special Delivery Drone spawns for camo chasing, but do not treat them as a strategic layer until players see how rare they are.
- Re-read your loadouts. Grappling Hooks are out of standard BR and Resurgence, and several guns moved — the numbers are in our weapon buffs and nerfs list.

FAQ
Is Black Ops Royale replacing normal Warzone?
No. Activision describes Black Ops Royale as a returning mode in the mid-season update, running alongside standard Warzone rather than replacing it.
Does Loaded Resurgence give you your loadout immediately?
Yes. Activision says players drop in and redeploy with custom Loadout weapons equipped from the start, while perks are earned through eliminations.
How much do Quickdrop Kits actually cut the redeploy timer?
The patch notes list three stages: 15% for the first kit, 30% for the second, and 45% for the third, which is the maximum. The reduction applies to the whole squad and is permanent for the rest of the match.
