ModernWarzone’s Doug Dagnabbit recently reported that Call of Duty 2021’s working title for the game is Call of Duty: WWII Vanguard but that this could change prior to release.
Eurogamer have now confirmed with their own sources that they believe that Activision expect to retain the Vanguard subtitle for final release.
Doug also explained that he understood that the game is set in the 1950’s and that “the entire game takes place in an alternate timeline where 1945 wasn’t the end of World War 2”. Eurogamer however understand that this particular detail is incorrect, and that Call of Duty WW2: Vanguard will in fact have a traditional WW2 setting.
No details have been confirmed by Activison, or SledgeHammer (the rumoured developer.) We do know however to expect the release of a Call of Duty title in Q4 of 2021, which would mark 4 years since the last release from SledgeHammer games, who have all but been confirmed as the developers.
There was significant back lash from a large proportion of the community when the rumours about the WW2 setting first arose, with more and more commentators touting Battlefield as having a strong opportunity to compete if that’s the case, as many feel WWII has been overdone,
I'm kind of bummed out after eurogamers report (they have a really good track record) and I can't help but feel like SHGames are going to need to do something absolutely revolutionary for the franchise to compete against Battlefield. Can Warzone continue to carry the franchise?

Ngl, I feel like WWII: Vanguard is going to struggle with marketing. There's already so much hate for it and it's not even been officially announced. I figured the alternate reality rumour would at least help sway people a bit, but now that's not true… idk
