MXR-17
By TourneyTime ·
The GRAU 5.56 is long retired — that gun belonged to a different era of Warzone. The page you’re on has been re-pointed to the rifle that’s actually carrying lobbies right now: the MXR-17.
It’s an assault rifle sitting in Absolute Meta for Warzone Season 4, and it’s one of the easiest “set it and forget it” long-range guns Black Ops 7 has produced. Big damage range, low recoil, and enough velocity to punish people across the map. Here’s exactly how to build it.
Best MXR-17 loadout
This is the long-range build every major meta tracker is converging on this season. Run it as-is.
| Slot | Attachment |
|---|---|
| Optic | FANG HoverPoint ELO |
| Muzzle | Monolithic Suppressor |
| Barrel | 17” Greaves Scourge Barrel |
| Magazine | Rhodes Drum Mag |
| Stock | Winch Stock |
Drop it in, hit the range for ten seconds to get the recoil pattern in your hands, and you’re ready.
Why this build works
Every attachment here is pulling its weight:
- Monolithic Suppressor is the one you never take off. It keeps you off the enemy radar when you fire, and it bumps both bullet velocity and damage range — exactly what a long-range rifle wants.
- 17” Greaves Scourge Barrel is where most of the velocity and range come from. It’s what lets you hit consistently out past 40m without your bullets falling off.
- Rhodes Drum Mag is a big jump up from the MXR-17’s small base magazine. The rifle already has the potential to wipe a full squad in a single mag — the drum is what lets you actually do it without reloading mid-fight.
- Winch Stock cleans up the vertical recoil and tightens your aim-walking, so beaming a moving target at range stays comfortable.
- FANG HoverPoint ELO is a clean, low-clutter optic for mid-to-long sightlines. Swap to your preferred zoom if you’ve got one you trust — this slot is the most personal.
The trade-off is honest: this build is built for range and control, not snap aggression. It can feel slow in a close-quarters scramble, which is why the smart move is to pair it.
Perks & equipment
The MXR-17 plays best as a patient, suppressed long-range threat — so build the class around staying hidden and informed:
- Perks: Paranoia, Awareness, Skulker
- Lethal: Frag Grenade
- Tactical: Grappling Hook
Paranoia and Awareness give you early warning when you’re being watched or pushed; Skulker keeps your repositioning quiet so you can reset an angle without broadcasting it. The Grappling Hook covers the rifle’s biggest weakness — it gets you out of a close-range jam fast.
Secondary: carry something snappy for indoors — an SMG or a fast-handling shotgun. Let the MXR-17 own the long lanes and swap when a fight collapses to a room.
Aggressive variant
Playing Resurgence, or just running a more in-your-face style? Lean the build toward mobility and recoil control instead of pure range:
| Slot | Attachment |
|---|---|
| Muzzle | Monolithic Suppressor |
| Barrel | 17” Greaves Scourge Barrel |
| Magazine | Vault Extended Mag |
| Underbarrel | VAS Convergence Foregrip |
| Stock | Winch Stock |
The Vault Extended Mag keeps your handling snappier than the drum, the VAS Convergence Foregrip tightens recoil for tracking on the move, and you keep the suppressor for the radar advantage. It’s a touch less forgiving at extreme range but far more comfortable when fights are closing in.
How to play it
- Hold the lanes. This rifle wins fights you start. Pre-aim long sightlines and let people walk into your damage range.
- Stay suppressed, stay patient. The whole point of the Monolithic Suppressor is invisibility on the minimap. Don’t give that away by spraying at targets you can’t finish.
- Use the full mag. The deep drum mag means you can chunk a second or third enemy before reloading — track between targets instead of panicking off the gun.
- Reposition after every kill. Awareness and a fired shot both tell enemies roughly where you are. Move, re-angle, re-engage.
- Know when to swap. The second a fight goes indoors, pull your secondary. Don’t try to win a 5-metre brawl with a long-range build.
